Position Paper Self-Reflection

Self Reflection

     Part 1:

  • For this Position Paper,  I made sure to use simple, understandable writing or made sure to define certain words that I believed some people would not know to account for linguistic differences between my audience and I. Also, I took into account the linguistic differences between my group mates and I, to help myself with the writing or stylization of the paper, during our peer review.
  • This assignment helped enhance my strategies for reading as I had to do a good amount of research on a complex subject for this assignment. Also, I improved my drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment, as not only did I have to go over my work and make sure everything I wrote was correct and was done in a good way, but I also had to go over all of the complex sources I had collected and make sure that the information I was taking from them made sense and was correct information.
  • I did not do much negotiating between my writing goals and the audience, as I pretty much had full reign with the assignment, as long as it fit the format provided for the assignment and was geared towards benefitting New York.
  • We developed and engaged in the collaborative and social aspects of the writing process, by engaging in peer review. We each presented the ideas for our assignment to each other, spoke together about our topics, and helped each other with our assignments, giving each other ideas about where to improve on our assignments.
  • I engaged in genre analysis by going through several different sources that all have their own genre and writing. I did not engage in multimodal composition within this assignment, as I only engaged with one mode, that being written language.
  • In this assignment, I formulated and articulated one stance, that being that Nuclear Power is more beneficial that any other kind of power, and that New York should actively invest into Nuclear Power.
  • I did practice using various sources for this assignment. I needed to collect a good amount of usable information to use for this assignment, and I ended up with close to a page of sources.
  • I strengthened my source use practices, as we had to go through various different articles and find information that would actually be of benefit to us, and find how to include that information into our assignment.

Part 2:

When first starting to approach this assignment, I had started to try to familiarize myself with the topic, and try to come up with a couple good ideas as to how to start this paper. Afterwards, I made sure to find many sources that I could use to get a good amount of usable information for my assignment. Once I had obtained enough sources and information, I went in head first, and just tried to get the assignment completed to the best of my ability. Once I was finished, I had started to look over and revise my work, and made sure to get my work as concise as possible. This process worked pretty well for me, as I have gotten the work done reasonably well, and have finished this assignment on time. I do not believe I would need to reconsider or rework this approach. This is not a new approach to me, as I have been using this approach for a good while now, for most of my assignments.
