Dear Ms. Davidow,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Muhammad Hussain, I am writing to introduce myself to you and to give you an idea of my background and interests. I am a freshman, currently in my second semester at CCNY, and I’m looking forward to improving my writing capabilities along with learning as much as I can about how to write in a technique that is specific to engineering. I was born and raised here in New York, though my family and I moved to Edison, New Jersey around five years ago. However, thankfully, I am now back in New York. When I had first moved to New Jersey and entered high school, I found it very difficult to acclimate to the new environment. Transitioning from a bustling metropolis to a suburb, everything and everyone had seemed different from what I was used to; people dressed, acted, and spoke differently and now everyone had to drive, no more was there an interconnected, expansive system of public transport. Eventually, though, I got used to the different environment and people, and was able to find a ‘group’ that I had felt accepted in, and it was in that group that I found my passion for the field of Engineering.

My favorite subjects in school were Math, Computer Design, and Auto Shop. I had only participated in one extracurricular activity, this was Auto Club, which was led by the same person who taught Auto Shop. I’ve always loved to be hands-on and try to physically work on something, and this class, Auto Shop, always gave me an outlet to do that while in high school. Working on cars had become a passion of mine, and eventually, I had come to love it so much that I would go to that class during my lunch period and any other free periods I would have. My preference for being hands-on, that class, along with advice from the teacher of that class allowed me to realize my passion for engineering and is what had set me on my path of becoming a Mechanical Engineer.

The reason I chose to study at CCNY is that for one, it is a fairly inexpensive, good college, and also, my elder sister attended and graduated from this school. Subjects I look forward to learning about in the future are electronics, such as working on circuits, and computer-aided design/drafting. Along with that, my main areas of interest outside of college at the moment are music production, and having fun with friends. My dream for the future is to eventually graduate from CCNY with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and to go on into the workforce as a Mechanical Engineer in either the automotive or Aerospace industry.

Thank you for your time, sincerely,

Muhammad Hussain
